Valley District Seeks Public Input on Upper Santa Ana River Restoration Project

San Bernardino, California - The San Bernardino Valley Municipal Water District (Valley District) is seeking public input on the Upper Santa Ana River Tributaries Restoration Project. Valley District prepared a Notice of Preparation (NOP) for the Upper Santa Ana River Tributaries Restoration Project in Riverside County. Valley District is now accepting comments on the NOP and Initial Study, and invites the public to attend and provide comment at a public scoping meeting scheduled on July 18, 2018.

Valley District proposes to construct and maintain four tributary restoration sites in Riverside County. The four restoration sites are: Anza Creek, Old Ranch Creek, Lower Hole Creek, and Hidden Valley Creek. The planned designs for the sites would provide improved habitat for endangered and/or threatened species. The main restoration efforts include restoration and enhancement of existing channels, creation of new channels, restoration of a floodplain tributary, enhancements to riparian and floodplain habitats, limiting human disturbance, and controling nonnative invasive species. The project would provide recreational opportunities for the public, such as hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing. The project may aid water agencies in establishing and identifying mitigation options and assisting in obtaining permits for future water management activities. The project’s NOP provides details on the restoration projects, which should help the public in providing comment on the scope and content to be included in the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The Initial Study will provide preliminary analysis and identify significant environmental effects to be analyzed in the EIR. Copies of project materials, including the NOP and Initial Study, are available from Valley District and online at http://www.sbvmwd.com/Upper-SAR-Restoration.

A public scoping meeting will be held at the following date and location:

July 18, 2018, 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Valley District Office, 380 East Vanderbilt Way
San Bernardino, CA 92408

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the scoping meeting. The scoping meeting will include a brief presentation, followed by an opportunity for public comments and questions. All comments must be submitted by August 9, 2018. Written comments will be accepted at the meeting or can be submitted via mail, email, or fax to:
